Big Bear Lake Holidays

Big Bear is a wonderful place to be over the holidays. There’s something special about being in the mountains this time of year. The pine trees, the snow, the fresh air, and the festive spirit of the season all combine to create a true winter wonderland – and we’re in the middle of Southern California!

The village was the place to be Friday night. Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Rudolph showed up to celebrate the lighting of the Christmas tree and sing a few carols with the locals. It’s common knowledge that Mr. and Mrs. Claus have a house in Big Bear and Santa sightings are fairly normal this time of year.

Santa will be hanging out in his little red house on Christmas Tree Corner in the Village every weekend through December 18th. As usual, Saint Nick will be asking the kids what they want for Christmas and finding out who’s been naughty and nice. Santa’s back in action December 21st – 23rd for another Big Bear tradition, the annual Rotary Club Santa Visit program. You can sign up for a Santa visit by calling 909-866-6586. The visits are free but donations are accepted to help fund next year’s program.

The New Year’s Eve party and torch parade at Snow Summit is another Big Bear tradition that shouldn’t be missed. Beginning at 7pm, hundreds of skiers and snowboarders carry torches as they wind their way down Snow Summit’s Miracle Mile. Immediately after the torch parade, the lights are turned on and the mountain opens for night skiing. The torch parade can be viewed from the base of the mountain or from other locations in the valley, including the North Shore. From certain vantage points it looks like lava pouring down the mountain. It’s truly an amazing sight. Snow Summit’s New Year’s Eve After-Party takes place in the Bullwheel Bar at 9 pm for partiers age 21 and older.

Big Bear is the place to be for the holidays. The entire valley comes alive and if you don’t plan early it can be hard to find a place to stay. Maybe it’s time to ask the real estate professionals at the Tyler Wood Group to help you find the greatest present of all – a home that you and your family will enjoy for years to come. Happy Holidays!
