Independence Day 2013

Big Bear Fireworks

If you have not experienced Big Bear Lake’s Independence Day celebration, you are missing a real treat.Big Bear Lake is famous for holding one of the top 10 fireworks displays in the state of California. The show is always on July 4th at 9:00pm. This year, the 4th is on Thursday.

Courtesy of the Big Bear Rotary Club, each year’s show has an uplifting half hour of gorgeous, high-flying fireworks, coordinated with Independence Day music from the local radio station, KBHR 93.3FM. Be sure to tune in!

The fireworks are shot over the lake from a barge near the Village. Great views can be had all over the Big Bear valley.

One of the best ways to view the display is from the lake itself. The Pine Knot area fills up with anchored boats as early as 7.

You must plan ahead to use the boat ramps or schedule a rental. This is a busy day of fun! Head over towards Pine Knot Landing at the Village.

Be sure to get there at least an hour early. It will be crowded! We broke the “1000 boats on the lake at one time” record a couple of years ago. Anchor, picnic, party and prepare for awesome fireworks right over your head.

If boating isn’t to your taste, come over to the swim beach at Meadow Park, and setup lawn chairs and blankets. The view is directly at the fireworks.

Many people also set up across the lake, along the north shore near the solar observatory. The sound is a bit less, but the view is fantastic.

If you are really feeling adventurous, you can find some quite remote areas to drive and watch. Many people drive up into the hills on the forest roads to watch the fireworks from above! We’ve seen their returning lights through the trees after a good show. If you do choose a remote spot remember, you are still driving a dirt road, now in the dark, on the way back.

Big Bear Lake invites you to celebrate our nation’s fight for freedom this Independence Day, July 4, 2013. For quite a few years, Big Bear Lake has been one of the coolest areas in Southern California over the 4th of July holidays. While the rest of Southern California is heating up, come up to the mountains for a cool treat and one of the best fireworks displays you have ever seen!
