Moonridge not a single subdivision, but rather a large hillside area south of Big Bear Lake itself, and is one of the most high-demand locations in the Valley. To many, Moonridge IS Big Bear, or at least the mountain environment many think of when they envision “cabin in Big Bear.”
Originally named “Moonridge Mountain Estates,” Moonridge is known for views, views, views – with many properties offering spectacular vistas that include the lake, and Bear Mtn. and Snow Summit ski areas. It’s no wonder that homes for sale in Moonridge boast “lots of windows” and “expansive decking” – all to take advantage of the four-season landscape.
Surrounded on three sides by National Forest land, Moonridge offers a hilly topography, and winding streets. The area is heavily treed with oaks, pines and ironwood, and fall color abounds starting in September.
Homes in Moonridge run the gamut from tiny cabins to spectacular multi-level custom view homes, and as such, Moonridge prices range from the very affordable to several million dollars. The mix of home styles in the area includes “Sierra” style cabins, Gambrels, A-Frames, log and log-sided designs, Victorian, Contemporary, Tudor, European, Craftsman, “mountain style” rustic – and just about everything in between.
The lower Moonridge area – just minutes from just about anywhere in Moonridge – is home to some of Big Bear’s biggest attractions, including the Bear Mtn. winter resort, Bear Mtn. golf course, and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo. One of the most popular USFS trails in the valley, road 2N10, can be accessed near Bear Mtn, for hiking, mountain biking, off-roading and just taking an afternoon drive.
Moonridge’s central location within the Big Bear Valley means it’s just a short drive to the lake and marinas, shopping centers, The Village, Snow Summit resort, and the many great restaurants Big Bear has to offer. With portions of Moonridge lying within both the City of Big Bear Lake and the unincorporated County area, it offers all utilities and is served by both the City and Big Bear City Community Services District.
It’s safe to say “there’s something for everyone” in Moonridge, with its varied assortment of home styles and prices. Whether you’re looking for the quintessential mountain cabin, a full-time family home, or a vacation rental investment, you’ll find it in Moonridge!
You’ll find an abundance of wildlife in the Moonridge area, from rare black bears and mountain lions to more common raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, coyotes, hawks and many types of small mountain birds. Moonridge receives a little more precipitation than other parts of the valley as evidenced by the lush vegetation and abundance of trees.
