Winter Fun – Big Bear Real Estate

As soon as the first prediction of snow is forecast, the excitement builds across the Valley. Many of us choose to live in Big Bear because of the variety of recreational opportunities.

Both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit lead the industry in snowmaking. That means plenty of snow, even when the afternoon temperatures hit 60 degrees.

Bear Mountain caters to snowboarders. There is free public internet access everywhere. We recommend you start at Red Bull Plaza. The Park at Bear Mountain is devoted to free-style terrain. Our favorite run is down Silver. It’s less crowded, and as the season progresses, there are plenty of features to enjoy.

Snow Summit is family friendly and caters more to skiers. Free internet is limited to Bear Bottom Lodge. Our favorite run is Chair 7. It’s not crowded and gets better as the snow gets deeper.

Occasionally Mother Nature gives us “wall to wall” snow. When the conditions are right, you’ll see locals pull out the snowshoes. If you don’t have a pair and want to try the sport; head over to Goldsmith’s Boardhouse on the Boulevard and rent a pair.

Big Bear is home to “Snowshoe the Bear”. It is an annual event that has a 5K course and a challenging 10K loop. Many of the people that enter are first time snowshoers. They come out to enjoy Big Bear, the sunshine and the friendly company.

Most winters, we’re able to hike and horseback ride in the east Valley. The Pacific Crest Trail runs through the back of the Valley and it’s often passable during the winter months.

Baldwin Lake Stables, located on Pioneertown Road, is open throughout the winter. They offer group rides and private rides. Reservations are suggested for all rides.
