Baldwin Lake

The Baldwin Lake area is located at the extreme east end of the Big Bear Lake Valley, east of Big Bear City.  Historic Baldwin Lake, for which the area takes its name, is a natural shallow “lake” bed, which is normally dry.  Some years, after a heavy winter or summer rains, the lake will hold water, and its level of fullness is judged by old-timers as “how far up the rock” the water is – referring to a large boulder in the lake at the north end.  The lake was named for local mining legend Elias Jackson … [Read more...]

Named for the fox farms that originally occupied the heavily treed, mostly-level acreage in the area, Fox Farm offers medium to large size lots and homes, and a peaceful setting.  Subdivisions within the Fox Farm area include … [Read more...]

Sugarloaf

Sugarloaf is a residential area south of Big Bear City, named for the 9,952’ mountain peak that serves as its backdrop, Sugarloaf Mountain.  Originally subdivided in the 1940’s, the lots were intended to be sold as “campsites.”  Because of the compact lot sizes, much of Sugarloaf was developed with smaller homes – hence it has become one of the most affordable areas in the Big Bear Valley, and a popular location for weekend cabins. Home styles in Sugarloaf range from the popular “Gambrel” style, to … [Read more...]
